Gear changing
Vehicles are usually equipped with 5 forward
gears and 1 reverse gear. Lately though some modern vehicles now have a 6th
gear. When changing gears, the driver must keep eyes on
the road at all time. Usually the driver can tell when gears need to be changed
by the sound of the engine. As you accelerate the engine will sound strained, this
will happen when the engine is reaching its limits for the gear selected. To change
gear in a car: Release the accelerator pedal and at the same time press the
clutch pedal down. Remove hand from the steering wheel, cup it around the gear
knob and move the lever gently but positively from one position to another.
Return hand to the steering wheel. Release the clutch pedal slowly and
simultaneously apply power by pressing down on the accelerator pedal.
