General

The heavy motor vehicle test
comprises of 2 parts and 21 exercises. Yard test and road test. The driver will
be required to go out of the testing ground for the road test should the driver
have passed the yard test. The driver will be penalised for various techniques.
The yard test consists of 6 techniques, Pre trip inspection interior and
exterior of vehicle, alley docking, Left turn, Reverse, Incline start. Should
these be passed the driver can move on to part 2 (the road test) which consists
of Starting, Moving off, Steering, Clutch, Gear changing, Signalling, Lane
changing, Overtaking left and right, Intersection/Vehicle entrances and
driveways, Speed control, Stopping, Freeways entry and exit. Each of these
techniques will be penalised according to certain criteria. There are however certain
penalties that will cause the driver to fail immediately:

  • Roadworthiness
  • Violation of traffic law
  • Uncontrolled/Dangerous action
  • Collision/Mechanical failure
  • Courtesy (Lack of)
