Clutch

When doing the test, it is very important that the driver knows
exactly what to do and how to use the clutch properly. Maintaining clutch
control is vital if you want to pass the various techniques and manoeuvres of
the test. It is important to remember to remove your foot completely from
clutch pedal except for purpose of gear changing, stopping, justified
“Slipping”, “Riding” or “Coasting”. The driver
can be penalised every 5 to 8 seconds if the driver “Rides” the clutch or does
not remove his/her foot completely from the cutch after stopping and selecting
neutral. The foot may not rest on the clutch pedal whilst the vehicle’s engine
is running except in stop-start traffic. Penalties will be given for the
following:

  • Smooth and co-ordinated
  • Slipping the clutch
  • Riding the clutch
  • Coasting
